Home Missions Sunday

at Northland Cathedral

December 5, 2004

By Marge Marshall

Each year the congregation of Northland Cathedral, in Kansas City MO, launches the Christmas season by honoring several families who serve small churches.  This year, their guests were the Calvin West family of Savannah MO, the Keith Garner family of Cameron MO, and us!  We were included because of our work in Alaska.  We really enjoyed telling about our experiences, as well as sharing what Howard plans to do during the Summer of 2005.  The food was good too!  Click on a picture to enlarge it.

Our Alaska story includes volunteer ministry in Hydaburg in 1996 and 1997; in Emmonak, Alakanuk, and Kotlik in 1998; and full-time pastoral work in Klawock, 1999-2004.  In the summer of 2005, Howard will return to Alaska and spend time in Kotzebue, visiting Jim & Nancy Mercer; then filling in for Jim Schulz at Crossroads Assembly of God in Anchorage, while Jim & Linda work at Camp AN; then going out to the Yukon Delta area of far west Alaska, to visit the churches in Emmonak, Alakanuk, and Kotlik.  Most of that time, he'll be in Emmonak, filling in for Bob & Carolyn Wheeler while they're on vacation.

Klawock and Hydaburg are in southeast Alaska, on Prince of Wales Island.  The town of Craig is near Klawock, and the two make up the population center of the island.  Please visit our home page, www.spaciousskies.me/home/ to read more about what we've been doing.
