Pastor Howard Marshall

"In Alaska At Last"

Howard Marshall's final earthly resting place is in Alaska.  If he were to know about it, I know he would be pleased, because he loved the people, and he enjoyed living there.  We volunteered in several villages, temporarily living in each:  Hydaburg, Emmonak, Kotlik and Kotzebue.  We actually resided in Klawock 1999-2004, as the pastoral couple at Prince of Peace Assembly of God. We left because of health issues, but he had really wanted to stay there forever!  As you can see below, this part of Prince of Wales Island is beautiful.  It's about 600 miles north of the Seattle WA area.

We asked the current pastor, Bob Girt, to scatter the ashes in Stan Snider's Park and the remainder in the Pacific Ocean.  Stan Snider was the father of our daughter-in-law Shannon Snider Marshall.  When Stan passed away in 1991, the city council honored his memory be naming a rustic rain-forest area for him. Pastor Girt chose May 31, 2015 as the day to honor our wishes.  Debbie Girt provided most of the photos on this page.  ~Marge Marshall, June, 2015

Winter view of the park.  Howard took this photo
and it became one of his favorites.

Warmer on the beach! Beaches in southeast Alaska are lined with logs which went astray. Prince of Wales Island is forested.

Howard enjoyed combing beaches; we have MANY shells he collected.

A tiny tree grows on an old log.

I miss living by the ocean!  My husband loved it.

Seagulls are everywhere.

Tide is out.

A lovely, peaceful scene.

Peace.

Debbie and Val flag-waving. Veterans are honored at every opportunity.
Alaskans are very patriotic, proud to be the 49th state.

Pastor Howard planted these poppies in the parsonage  yard.

We were the first to live in the new parsonage, so Howard got to help build the front yard.  Formerly rugged forest floor, it was quite a challenge. He enjoyed mowing the lawn. When we moved to Klawock in 1999, we brought along a few Kansas-style trees; you can see one at left and another in front of the power pole.  That's Pastor Bob mowing, with their dog Charlie Brown.
