Mountains in Southwest Texas

Alpine is in Brewster County, Texas, in the high desert part of the state.  They've had quite a bit of rain this year, so the mountains look green.  At left is Twin Peaks, also known as Twin Sisters.  I took it looking west from the heights of the mountain on which Sul Ross State University sits.  After that I drove west of town on Hwy 90 and took another picture of Twin Peaks.  Although it looks like there are even higher mountains in the background, don't believe it!  Somehow I managed to do a double-exposure -- so surprise, it's "trick photography"!

Alpine is the gateway to Big Bend National Park, by way of Hwy 118, the "Texas Mountain Highway."  The Park website is at www.nps.gov/bibe/home.htm -- there are some excellent scenery links.  David drove us through the huge park several years ago.  We enjoyed the trip and, no kidding, the scenery is awesome!  ~Marge Marshall
