Delorse is now widowed; Bob passed away in May 2005.  He was a real country-lovin' guy.  He liked country music, fishing, chicken fighting, and coon hunting.

Delorse and I became good friends while we were in Junior High School.  As starry-eyed teenagers, we followed the real-life romance of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, who married in 1947.  Later, we made big plans to have a small "trailer house" and travel around the country...we had great fun cutting out the ads in magazines, sending them in and getting catalogs.  Now how we could possibly have paid for all that, I don't recall that we had any idea!

Delorse has a better memory; she recalls that we were going to get office jobs wherever we stopped, work a while, then move on to a different place.  We wanted to see the country.  The Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, California, the Liberty Bell, the Capitol, the White House, and so on.

Sometimes we'd go to the Methodist Church with Delorse's grandmother for a covered-dish supper; my favorite dish was Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

Delorse also recalls that we made nut cups for Grandmother's monthly Sunday School Class suppers.

We both have fulfilled our dreams of traveling around the country.

Delorse has lived in Ohio, Alabama, Texas, and Florida.  She's been to Graceland, and saw Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park, and Palo Duro Canyon in Texas.  She spent time in Germany and Alabama as nanny for her grandson Robert. She spent time in Fairbanks, Alaska with Robert ... they found winter to be cold and dark, but they could always visit Santa Claus House in North Pole, Alaska (which is nowhere near the north slope.)  Click here to check the weather in Fairbanks.

I've lived in Kansas, California, Missouri, Ohio, and Alaska, and I've been to Graceland, as well as Grand Canyon and Yellowstone; I've added Big Bend National Park in SW Texas and parts of Canada to my list, along with the Liberty Bell in 1986.  My pen-pal Kath lives in England, and Howard and I visited her and her husband Norm in 2002.

Other places we've both been (at separate times):  Walt Disney World, Los Angeles, and Knotts Berry Farm.

Delorse and Bob Carter married in 1953 in Lyons, while I was living in California.  Howard and I were married in 1952;  Delorse gave me a bridal shower and helped with my wedding.

It was so hot there in the Church of the Nazarene, that our candles melted!
Here's a photo from our wedding album; it was taken while w
e were kneeling for prayer.

One of the wedding gifts we received was the 1950 version of Betty Crocker's Picture Cookbook.  It fell apart long ago.  But recently I purchased a reprint of it, and it's fun reading the old recipes...complete with plenty of fats and sugars!  Not only is it nostalgic, but it's educational because it was printed before many kinds of today's packaged foods were developed.  Here's a photo of it, which I found on the Amazon Internet Bookstore website.
